MJC was 13 of 14 from the free throw line in the first half, finishing 24 for 30. Still, the Pirates trailed the Hawks 53-27 at halftime. Kory Johnson tallied all 15 of his points in the second half for the Pirates.--MJC WOMEN -- Cosumnes River closed with a 16-2 run in the final seven minutes of the game to beat the host Pirates 60-43. Modesto JC (5-5, 0-1 Big 8) trailed just 44-41 at the 6:43 mark.Brei Castilleja led MJC with nine points and Christie Hobby with eight rebounds. The Hawks (9-5, 1-0 Big 8) Pandora Chains led by Natalia Ginson's 19 points.

The Warrior men are 2-0 against Cal State East Bay since the Pioneers entered the CCAA in 2009-10.
