This is the volleyball team Dickinson State Tiffany Bow pendant coach Ryan Platt has been hoping would come around. The Blue Hawks put the hammer down early against a young South Dakota Mines team and earned its third consecutive Dakota Athletic Conference Tiffany Butterfly key ring with a 25-8, 25-21, 25-12 sweep Sunday afternoon at Scott Gymnasium."There were no letdowns," Platt said. "We're really starting to come together."
DSU's front row pummeled the Hardrockers (8-9, 1-3 DAC) early in Game 1 to establish a lead and expanded it to 15-5 before running away with the quick win.Junior Tiffany Butterfly pendant hitter Ruth Johnson said players are beginning to understand their roles."Everybody is doing their job now and everybody is excited," Johnson said. "When people get excited, they just hammer balls."
Mines' young lineup, which included four freshmen, struggled when Johnson and DSU front-row hitters Courtnie Trustem, Iva Cepic, Karen Almeida, Tiffany Charm bracelet Franklin and Jennifer Hartman found their grooves offensively. It was another balanced day statistically for the Blue Hawks (9-12, 3-1 DAC).Johnson had a team-high nine kills while Trustem followed with seven, Cepic six and Almeida five.
